Reguardades
"Reguardades," a visual art exhibition curated and managed by Patricia Encarnación, Andrea Diaz and Manuela Hidalgo, showcase how women and feminized individuals within the Dominican art circuit utilize art, diverse materials, traditional tools, design, and their own corporeality as a territory for creating and preserving culture and establishing safe spaces for themselves, their communities, and their ancestral heritage.
The participating artists include Adela Dore, Ana María López, Andrea Ottenwalder, Diana Eusebio, Geraldine Rivera, Gina Goico, Johanna Castillo, Johanné Gómez Terrero, Julianny Ariza, Karla Read, Letty Sanchez, Martha Diaz Adam, Maria Monegro, Nana Baez, Nathalie Landestoy, Patricia Castillo, Quiara Torres, Thelma Vanahí, Yelaine Rodriguez, and Yessica Montero.
mission
Through an interdisciplinary lens, "Reguardades" challenges established paradigms of representation that undervalue and overlook the significance and voices of feminized bodies in the artistic sphere. This exhibition offers an inclusive and diverse platform for representation, promoting a critical dialogue on gender equality and inclusion.
The mission of the "Reguardades" exhibition is to explore the concept of "reguardo" as a historically assigned element of protection and safety for feminized individuals in society. Despite this supposed protection, there is a systematic exclusion and lack of agency in various areas of life. "Reguardades" seeks to illuminate how feminized individuals, through their creativity, generate spaces of protection both within the realm of art and in everyday life, fostering resilience, self-care, and community support.
SDQ art week
This exhibition was held at the Centro Cultural Copey in Santo Domingo, as part of the Santo Domingo Art Week and the International MECA Fair. Its objective was to underscore the presence and contributions of Dominican feminized artists during this significant artistic event.
